Autumn trimester begins at IUB

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised an orientation programme on September 6, 2014 at its permanent campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka, for the newly admitted students of the Autumn trimester.
In his short speech, Professor M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, welcomed the students and urged them to contribute to the society, country and humanity. He also went over the differences between instruction and education. He said that without failure there would not be any growth and education is all about making difference.
Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Dean, School of Business; Dr. Ali Shihab Sabbir, Dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science; Professor M. Ali Hossain, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management; Professor Zakir Hossain Raju, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Dr. Rita Yusuf, Dean, School of Life Sciences and Dr. Tanvir A. Khan, Registrar, also spoke to the newly admitted students on the occasion.
The programme was conducted by Priyanka Dey, Assistant Director, Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid of IUB.
Later the newly admitted students visited different schools, departments, library, laboratories etc. Apart from the students, their parents, guardians, members of the faculty and management of IUB were present on the occasion.

Faculty Orientation Workshop at Green University

Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) has successfully completed a four-day long workshop on Teaching and Learning at GUB, titled 'Steps towards Quality and Excellence'. The workshop was designed to develop teaching and learning skills of 19 newly recruited senior and junior faculty members. It was organised and facilitated by Green University Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (GUCETL) and was held from September 5-8, 2014 at Green Auditorium of its university campus.
Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice Chancellor of GUB, provided overall guidance and acted as lead facilitator for the workshop. Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, was present as Guest of Honour in the opening session. Professor Dr. Md. Muhibur Rahman, Member of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, was present as Chief Guest in the closing session. Some of the sessions of the workshop were facilitated by some eminent educationists, including Professor Dr. Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of State University; Professor Dr. Syed Manjurul Islam of University of Dhaka; Farida Akhtar, a renowned psychologist; Arifa Rahman and Iqbal Hasan of GUCETL.
The workshop covered topics like social capital for classroom, managing the first class, students' learning styles vs teachers' teaching, effective habits of high performing teachers, managing students' disruptive behaviour, how to prevent plagiarism, efficient use of PowerPoint, the art of questioning, preparing course syllabus and lesson plan etc.

Certificate Awarding Ceremony for participants of Asia Summer Program-2014

Daffodil International University organised Certificate Awarding Ceremony at DIU Auditorium on September 13, 2014 for the DIU students, who attended Asia Summer Program-2014 at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia.   
Norlin binti Othma, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University and Daffodil Group, was present as the Guest of Honour. Presided over by Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University, the event was addressed by Professor Dr. Engr. A.K.M. Fazlul Hoque, Registrar and Professor Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Director (International Affairs).
Among the participants, Nowrin Nueri Esha of English Department and Syed Rasheduzaman of BBA Program shared their experiences at Asia Summer Program 2014.  
The Malaysian High Commissioner said that through this program, DIU students got an opportunity to learn cross cultural communication, personal soft skill development, confidence building, career enhancement as well as mutual friendship among the participating countries.
Md. Sabur Khan in his address informed that more than 50 students will get the opportunity to participate in the next Asia Summer Program to be held in Japan. Daffodil International University will organise a national summer camp in Bangladesh in 2015 in collaboration with Jahangirnagar University and participants from other public and private universities of Bangladesh, he added.

Dr. Shawkat Hussain joins English department, UAP

Professor Dr. Shawkat Hussain has joined as Head, English department, University of Asia Pacific (UAP). He was a Professor and Chair of English, University of Dhaka, where he completed his Bachelor and Masters degree in English Literature. He completed his PhD from Dalhousie University, Canada.
He was a Visiting Fellow/Scholar of University of Queensland, Australia; North South University, Dhaka and Adjunct Faculty of Montgomery College, USA.
He was the Managing Editor of Bangladesh Journal of American Studies, Editor of National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health, USA and Founder Editor of Form.
