ASAUB organises Seminar

Department of Pharmacy, ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), ideSHi and icddr,b jointly organised a seminar titled 'Scientific Research for Young Scientists & Benefits of ASM members for Scientific Research in Bangladesh' on September 8.
Dr. Firdausi Qadri, Director, Centre for Vaccine Sciences and Head, Immunology Unit, icddr,b was the keynote speaker. Professor Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, Vice Chancellor of ASAUB, was the chief guest and Professor Md. Muinuddin Khan, Adviser of ASAUB, was present as the special guest and delivered speeches. Deans and chairmen of different faculties and departments, teachers, officials and students were also present at the seminar.

Seminar on 'Connect Bangla' at UIU
United International University (UIU) and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) jointly organised an event on 'Connect Bangla' on September 22, 2014 at UIU auditorium. Professor Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, United International University presided over the ceremonies while Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, Education Secretary, was present as chief guest. The welcome address was given by Mohammad Enamul Kabir, Director, BCC and the keynote speech was by Keith Stevens, Google Translate Team. Khan Md. Anwarus Salam, Country Engineering Consultant, Google was present as speaker.
'Connect Bangla' is a community event on Bangla language processing tools with the aim to bring digital Bangla language developers and researchers to a platform to promote and share ideas, knowledge and resources.
Among others present at the seminar were Habib Abu Ibrahim, Treasurer, UIU; Professor A.S.M. Salahuddin, Registrar and distinguished ICT leaders and professionals from home and abroad.
Scholastica Relaunches The Duke
of Edinburgh's International Awards
Scholastica relaunched The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award on September 15 at their Senior Section in Uttara. The program started with a welcome speech by Brig. Gen. Kaiser Ahmed, Principal of Scholastica. An award presentation was delivered by Award Leader Nasreen Rahman. Professor Dr. K.M. Shariful Huda, National Director of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Foundation Bangladesh, explained the benefits and importance of the award briefly. The chief guest Rizwan Bin Farouq, Chairman of The Executive Committee (EC) of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Foundation Bangladesh, said in his speech, “DEA program is a journey that's full of fun” and inspired the students to join the program so that they develop themselves holistically.

4th National ICT Fair 2014 by
Oxford International School
The 4th National ICT Fair 2014 was inaugurated by chief guest, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Telecommunications and Information Technology, at Oxford International School (OIS) in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
The chief guest, in his speech, said, “OIS, one of the leading schools of the country, has been playing a major role in the field of ICT.” He also said that the present Government has a vision of creating a 'Digital Bangladesh' by 2021. He added that 23,500 educational institutions now use multimedia in their classrooms and 32,000 teachers have been given IT training. IT education has been made mandatory in secondary level. He also declared that the Government is going to establish an IT university and a hi-tech park very soon.
The inauguration program was also addressed by the President of OIS, Shakawat Hossain; Rizwan Bin Farouq, Chairman of Executive Committee, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Foundation BD and Managing Director of B2M Technologies Ltd; Dr. G.U. Ahsan, Chairman, Department of Public Health, North South University and Professor Shahidul Alam Monzu, Principal of OIS.
Students from schools, colleges and universities -- of both national and international curriculum -- in Bangladesh have participated in the ICT Olympiad, Brain Teasers, Project Showcasing, Digital Art Competition, Algorithm Contest, General Knowledge Competition, Gaming Competitions at the event. Workshops and seminars have also been arranged where renowned ICT experts and enthusiasts of the country were present as facilitators.
