Fall 2014-15 edition of Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series at AIUB

Heather Cruden was the distinguished guest lecturer for the Fall 2014-15 edition of the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series. The event took place on September 16 at the AIUB auditorium.
The Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna, was present during the event. A welcome speech was delivered by Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering. Heather Cruden delivered a speech on 'Governance, Democracy and Development', where she emphasised on women's empowerment and poverty alleviation in Bangladesh.
As a sign of gratitude, a crest was presented to her by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna along with Professor Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Vice President (Academics), Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr. Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Registrar, Program Directors, Department Heads and faculty members. Farheen Hassan, Head, Department of Management was the Master of Ceremony of the program.

Regional research methods course by SDC & EWU

SAARC Documentation Centre (SDC) and East West University (EWU) jointly organised a ten-day long regional research methods course at the latter's campus. Twenty-six participants from eight SAARC countries attended this program. This course was meant for researchers, faculty members, M.Phil and Ph.D students.
M.A. Mannan was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony. At the end of the course the concluding program began with distribution of certificates among the participating researchers. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU chaired the program, while Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor of EWU and Kesang Dechen, Deputy Director of SAARC Documentation Centre were the special guests. Dr. Dilara Begum, Librarian, EWU, delivered the welcome address on the occasion. 

Orientation Program for Fall 2014 at EU

The orientation program for the undergraduate students of Fall 2014 of Eastern University (EU) was held on September 23 at the university premises. Shaher Mohammad, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Bangladesh, was the chief guest. He congratulated and welcomed the new students. Mohammad Enayetullah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of EU was present as the special guest. Vice Chancellor of EU, Professor Dr. Abdur Rab mentioned some of his initiatives such as introduction of world-class course curriculum in his presidential address. The Pro Vice Chancellor of EU, Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury spoke of the various co-curricular activities available through different clubs/forums of EU. Among others, the Deans, Advisor and Registrar spoke on the occasion.

ULAB celebrates 10th founding anniversary

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has organised a week-long program from September 28 till October 1, to celebrate its 10th Founding Anniversary. All departments and centers of the university are contributing to the festive mood by showcasing their publications and research work at the lobby of Campus A.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration. Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Member, ULAB Board of Trustees welcomed everyone and thanked all concerned for the hard work which contributed to the growth of the university. Juditha Ohlmacher, Member, ULAB Board of Trustees did a presentation on ULAB's growth over the span of ten years.
The Vice President, Board of Trustees, Dr. Kazi Anis Ahmed; Pro-Vice Chancellor H. M. Jahirul Haque; Professor Emeritus Dr. Rafiqul Islam; Senior Advisor, Strategic Planning, Prof. Brian Shoesmith; and the Acting Treasurer and Registrar of ULAB, Lt Col Md. Foyzul Islam (Retd) along with faculty members, administration officers and students were also present at the program.

GUB signs MoU with US-Bangla Airlines

Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US-Bangla Airlines Ltd. on September 24. Under this MoU, students of GUB will get preference for their internship in the US-Bangla Airlines Ltd and 30 percent of its jobs will be reserved for the students of GUB. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, and Air Cdre MG Tawhid (Retd.), Executive Director of US-Bangla Airlines signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. The Registrar of GUB, Lt. Col. Md. Ali Ambial Haque Khan (retd.), Director (HR) of US-Bangla Group, Wing Commander SM Musa (retd.) and other high officials of both the institutions were present in the program. 

Farewell program at UAP

University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organised a farewell program for the outgoing undergraduate students at its new campus.
UAP Board of Trustees Chairperson, A.K.M Kamaluddin Choudhury addressed the program as chief guest and Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC of UAP chaired the program. Professor Emiratis Dr. Abdul Matin Patwary was the special guest.
 Abdul Matin Patwary recalled the inaugural ceremony of the establishment by former President of Bangladesh Zillur Rahman.
Registrar, Dr. Md. Abdul Mazid welcomed the students. Faculty members, administrative staff, outgoing students and distinguished alumni attended the program.

Seminar on 'International Day for Peace' at BRAC University

UNESCO Club of BRAC University organised a seminar on 'International Day for Peace' on its premises on September 29. Kiichi Oyasu, Program and Education specialist, UNESCO Bangladesh was the chief guest while Dr. Piash Karim, Professor, Department of Economics and Social Sciences and Khan Ahmed Murshid, Director, Career Services Office, BRAC University spoke at the event.
The speakers talked about constraints of sustainable peace and voiced the fundamental prerequisites to ensure it by giving respect to others' rights, diversity and values. They also inspired the youth as global citizens to build a better world where people can live in harmony and stability.
Meheri Tamanna, Lecturer and also the advisor of the club coordinated the program. Faculty, administration staff and students were present during the event.
