BRAC University Counseling Unit observes World Mental Health Day
A seminar was organised by BRAC University Counseling Unit in collaboration with Institute of Educational Development of BRAC University and Gender Justice and Diversity Program (GJ&D) of BRAC on October 16 to observe World Mental Health Day.
Professor Fuad Hasan Mallick, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, welcomed the guests Kamal Uddin Ahamed, Associate Professor, Department of Clinical Psychology, University of Dhaka and renowned psychologist and also consultant to BRAC University, Farida Akhtar. Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman Khan, Assistant Professor, Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) explained the general guidelines of early intervention.
Sumiaya Anwer, Faculty and Coordinator of Counseling Unit; Dr. Nishat Fatima Rahman, Faculty and Coordinator of Psychosocial Lab, IED, BRAC University and Somajsongee; Tahmina Yesmin, Senior Manager of GJ&D, BRAC shared BRAC University and BRAC's contribution to the mental health field. Professor Riaz P. Khan, Dean, Student Affairs of BRAC University concluded the seminar. Distinguished guests from different departments of BRAC University and BRAC attended the seminar along with guests from University of Dhaka and other universities, NGOs and colleges.

Club Day at ULAB
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a colorful Club Day at its campus on October 16. The main attraction was the dance form “Raybeshe” in which students from all the clubs participated under the supervision of Samina Hossain Prema. Performances were supervised by ULAB's Co-curricular Office. The main focus of celebrating Club Day was to motivate students to be engaged in club activities and create leadership skills.
The event was inaugurated by Professor Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor of ULAB. The clubs performing on Club Day Fall 2014 were: Social Welfare Club, Debating Club, Business Club, Computer Programming Club, Adventure Club, Art Club, Theatre ULAB, Electronics Club, Film Club, Indoor Games Club, Media Club, Shangskriti Shangsad, ULAB Yes, Sustainable Development, Triathlon Club and Language Club.
Among others, Lt. Col. Md. Foyzul Islam, Registrar of ULAB; Professor Golam Mohammad, Dean, School of Business; Professor Muhammad Ibrahim; Tahmina Zaman, Advisor of Co-curricular Activities, students and faculty were present at the event.
GUB organises Club Fair
Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) organised the Club Fair for Fall Semester 2014 to encourage the newly admitted students. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir inaugurated Club Fair at the Green Garden of the university campus. Business Club, Marketing Club, Debating Club, FTDM Club, Textile Club, EEE Club, Law Club, Cultural Club, Sports Club, English Club, Reading Society, Photography Club and Computer Club etc help students to gain practical experience with their subjects of study or interests. In total, there are thirteen clubs. Each club works and mobilises students for different aspects. University Treasurer and Director of Student Affairs, Md. Shahid Ullah acted as key person along with Assistant Director, Dr. Afzal Hossain Khan and Mishkat Al Alvi to organise the club fair. Registrar, Lt. Col. Md. Ali Ambial Haque Khan (Retd); Controller of Examinations, Professor SMK Nazmul Haque, chairpersons of various departments, faculty members, officials and a large number of students participated in the event.
NSU Wins Inter University Table Tennis Tournament 2014
Games and Sports Club of North South University (NSU) won the Inter University Table Tennis Tournament 2014 organised by United International University (UIU), held from October 16 to 18.
Team NSU became the champion of all three categories they participated in. The categories were: Singles, Doubles and Team. Five best players were selected: Muntaseer Mohd. Alam (Team Captain), Shahriar Bin Elias, Raihan Kaiser Sunny, Anamul Haque and Md. Ishtiaque Ahmed.
Raihan Kaiser Sunny became Singles Champion and Muntaseer Mohd. Alam became Doubles Champion. The best player of the tournament was Raihan Kaiser Sunny. Ten private universities took part in the tournament.
Iranian Official Representative visits SEU
Dr. Ali Azam Khosravi, Official Representative and Research Counselor of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Islamic Republic of Iran paid an official visit to Southeast University's (SEU) Banani campus on October 22. He took part in a discussion meeting with SEU Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain, about possible academic collaboration and exchange programs for students and faculty.
First Secretary of Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Bangladesh, Bahram Saifzadeh; SEU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury; Registrar, Brig. Gen. Md. Anwarul Islam, ndc, psc, G+ (Retd.); Chief Coordinator of Southeast University Trust Wing Cdr, Syed Ahmed Kabir, fawc, psc (Retd); Dean, School of Business Studies, Professor Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui; Dean (Acting) of School of Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim; Dean (Acting) of School of Science and Engineering, Professor Syed Fakhrul Hassan; Director, Institute of Research and Training (IRT) Professor Dr. Sharif Nurul Ahkam and Embassy's Press Officer Muhammad Fozlul Bary Siddiky were prersent at the meeting.
