After over one and a half months of suspension, voting for the biennial election of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is set to be held on May 23.

The CCCI yesterday issued a notice signed by the Chairman of the CCCI Election Board, Monowara Begum, who is also a director for local government at the Chittagong Divisional Commissioner’s office, stating that voting to elect 18 directors from the ordinary and associate groups will take place from 9am to 4pm without interruption.

The election will be held at the World Trade Centre, which houses the chamber office, in Agrabad, Chattogram, according to a press release issued by the chamber.

Earlier, two dates were announced for the election, first on November 1 last year, and then it was set for April 4, but it was postponed twice due to legal procedures.

In CCCI elections, 24 directors are elected from four categories. These are the Ordinary Group, Associate Group, Town Association, and Trade Group. These directors then elect the president and two vice-presidents.

According to the CCCI notice, voting will be held to elect 18 directors from the Ordinary Group and Associate Group.

It is notable that the remaining six director candidates, three each from the Town Association and the Trade Group, will be elected uncontested.
