Businesses seek time-bound RJSC services

Businesses have called for time-bound services from the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC), saying delays add to the cost and uncertainty of doing business.

Nihad Kabir, former president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the RJSC should be given the expertise and capacity to dispose of applications within clear deadlines.

“If the registrar does not approve or reject an application within 30 days, it should be deemed approved,” she proposed.

She also called for digital verification, including biometrics and facial recognition, to simplify share transfers, particularly for Bangladeshis living abroad.

Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said the government would not rush the Companies Act reform and would consider business views.

“This is a transition time for all of us. We have to get through this period with a cool head and a good plan to build the real platform for the real future,” he said.

ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman called for regular, institutional consultation with the private sector.

BCCI President Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez also stressed that “time-bound service is a must” and sought clear deadlines for appeals against RJSC decisions.

The meeting was held at the FBCCI office in Dhaka’s Motijheel today to discuss the draft Companies Act (Third Amendment) 2026.
