Govt forms steering panel on creative economy

The government has constituted a 27-member National Steering Committee on Creative Economy to foster sector-specific growth and coordinate policy implementation across public and private entities.

Chaired by the minister for finance and planning, the high-level panel includes key cabinet ministers, senior government secretaries, institutional representatives, and sector specialists, including fashion designer Bibi Russell, according to a notification released yesterday.

According to its terms of reference, the committee will approve and review the implementation progress of sector-specific roadmaps for the creative economy.

It will provide inter-ministerial and inter-agency coordination and policy direction, alongside reviewing the activities of various sector-specific committees.

Furthermore, the panel will review implementation progress on a quarterly basis, with secretarial support provided by the Finance Division.

The move aligns with the government's broader economic reform and deregulation package announced in the national budget, designed to diversify the economy, enhance business competitiveness, and support structural transformation as Bangladesh prepares for graduation from least developed country status.
