Govt to honour 11 individuals, organisations of jute sector

The jute and textile ministry plans to honour 11 individuals and organisations for their contribution in increasing production and export of jute and jute products.

"The award will be given for their contribution towards the achievement of development targets of the government through research in jute sector development, reduction of dependence on jute seed imports, self-sufficiency in jute seed production and increase in production and export of jute products," said Jute and Textile Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi.

The minister spoke at a press meet on 'National Jute Day 2022' at the conference room of his ministry in Dhaka today.

In addition, seven greetings will be given to the jute stakeholders.

The jute ministry will celebrate 'National Jute Day-2022' on March 6 to promote jute cultivation, increase the use of jute and jute products in domestic and international markets and highlight the bright potential of the golden fibre, the minister said.

The theme of this year's national jute day is 'Sonali Asher Sonar Desh, Eco-Friendly Bangladesh'.

An initiative has been taken to organise a three-day multi-faceted jute exhibition and fair from March 6.
