RMG workers go for work abstention demanding arrears in Savar

Workers of a readymade garment workers of Savar went on work abstention today, demanding their last month's salary and other arrears.

More than 1,000 workers of Dipta Apparels Ltd located in Shyampur area of ​​Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, started the demonstration near the entrance of the factory 8:00am.

The workers entered the factory around 9:00am but they continued their demonstration, our Savar correspondent reports.

Kabir Hossain, general secretary of National Garment Workers Federation (Savar Ashulia Regional Committee), said there are around 3,000 workers in the factory. "The workers have gone for the strike demanding their last month's salary."

"The factory authorities often pay their salaries and allowances late," he alleged.

The owners and the industrial police are trying to talk with the workers to settle the issue, Kabir said.

Dhaka Industrial Police Sub-Inspector Md Korban Ali said, "We have talked to the factory authorities, they assured us of paying the last month's salary by today (April 11), but they may take time to pay the other arrears."

In a text message to media, the factory's Managing Director Nabeel Ud Daulah around 4:20pm said, "We had planned to clear the payment today. All the workers have already received their salary in the afternoon."
