Telecom services may be disrupted first week of April: BTRC

Star Business Report

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today said mobile phone users may face disruption in getting services from Thursday evening to the next morning as it will reallocate spectrum among mobile operators.

The telecom regulator said services may be disrupted in two phases on April 1 and April 7.

Users may face difficulty to make phone call and internet speed from 11 pm to 7 am the next day on both phases, said the BTRC.

The disclosure comes three weeks after the telecom regulator auctioned radio frequency (spectrum) totalling 27.4 MHz among Grameenphone Ltd, Robi Axiata Ltd and Banglalink.

The BTRC auctioned 7.4MHz in the 1,800 band and 20MHz in the 2,100 band.

The BTRC said disruption may take because of the rearrangement of spectrum among mobile phone operators.
