Experts call for reforms to attract investment in Bangladesh

They stressed the need for better logistics, streamlined customs procedures, and greater regulatory predictability to attract both local and foreign investors.

The dialogue, titled "Bangladesh's Business and Investment Climate: From Challenges to Competitiveness", was held at the Holiday Inn Dhaka City Centre.

It brought together senior representatives from the ministries of industries, foreign affairs, finance and ICT; the National Board of Revenue; the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority; and other relevant government bodies.

Organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) and supported by Betopia Group, the event focused on identifying reforms essential for enhancing Bangladesh's competitiveness in the global market.

Speakers highlighted the importance of ensuring energy security, facilitating digital trade, maintaining policy continuity, and strengthening government–private sector collaboration. They said these measures are crucial for sustaining economic growth and attracting long-term investments.

Mahbubur Rahman, secretary to the Ministry of Commerce, attended the programme along with a senior delegation from the ministry.

Paul Frost, commercial counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka, was also present, reflecting the continued commitment to deepening US-Bangladesh trade and investment cooperation.

Chowdhury Kaiser Mohammad Riyadh, executive director of AmCham, moderated the dialogue.

Moinul Huq, country manager of Citi NA; Rashed Mujib Noman, managing director of Augmedix Bangladesh; Muhammad Monir Hossain, founder and group CEO of Betopia Group; members of the AmCham executive committee; and other industry leaders also attended the event.
