Rajshahi University student airlifted to Dhaka after condition turns critical
A critically ill Rajshahi University (RU) student was airlifted to Dhaka this morning for advanced treatment.
The student, Zahedul Islam Simon, a first-year student of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), was flown to Dhaka around 10:00am. Simon's family home is in Chattogram.
Simon fell critically ill around 11:00am yesterday and was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). As his condition deteriorated, doctors advised that he be shifted to the intensive care unit.
Initially, the hospital could not provide an ICU bed. After the university administration was informed, it took steps to arrange an ICU bed for him at RMCH.
Prof Md Shariful Islam, director of IBA, said, “Following discussions with his family and the institute authorities, arrangements were made to take him to Dhaka. The vice-chancellor also directly assisted in arranging an ICU bed for him at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka.”
Vice-Chancellor Prof Faridul Islam was present when Simon was taken to Dhaka.
“As his condition was critical, taking him to Dhaka by road was risky. Following the doctors’ advice, we immediately arranged an air ambulance,” he said.
