GREAT Scholarship for postgraduate students in Britain and Northern Ireland

The GREAT scholarship is a joint initiative by the government of GREAT Britain and the British Council in partnership with participating institutions. GREAT scholarship offers students of 18 countries a stipend towards their tuition fees for a one-year postgraduate taught course. Bangladeshi students are in the list of eligible countries for the programme, and over 140 scholarships are being offered for the 2026-27 academic year across 60 universities in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

GREAT Scholarships offer students from certain countries 10,000 GBP towards their tuition fees for a range of one-year postgraduate taught courses across various institutions in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. For Bangladeshi students, the following institutions offer the scholarships in certain courses:

• Cranfield University

• Leed Arts University

• Keele University

• The University of Manchester

• Ulster University

• University of East Anglia

• University of Glasgow

• University of Portsmouth

The scholarship covers a range of programmes, including arts and creative design, law, science and technology, etc.

Eligibility and Requirements

To apply, applicants must have a valid passport, pass the English language requirement set by the UK Higher Education Institution (HEI), and have an undergraduate degree in a field relevant to the programme they’re applying to. Other requirements expected of GREAT scholars are listed in the British Council’s website. They include a willingness to maintain contact with the British Council and their HEI and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarship among other activities.

How to apply

Applicants have to visit the university pages listed on the British Council website and follow the link to apply for the university and programme they intend to enrol in for the academic year 2026-27.

Deadline

The deadlines for the application vary by institution, but successful GREAT scholars can expect to hear back by June 30.
