16 killed in road accidents
Sixteen people were killed and 31 others injured in road accidents in the country yesterday and Thursday.
Our Moulvibazar correspondent reports, three people were killed and three others injured when a car veered out of control and hit a roadside tree at Kakiyabazar in Sreemangal upazila early yesterday.
The dead were Raju Ahmed, 35, Sabuj Mian, 40, Arif Hossain, 28, of the upazila.
Our Savar correspondent adds, four people were killed and 20 others injured when a brick-laden truck collided head-on with a bus of Soudia Paribahan on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Joypura in Dhamrai early yesterday.
Three of the dead were identified as Shahidul Islam, 23, a soldier in army, and Shamsur Rahman, 40, both of Satkhira, and Obaidur Haque, 70, of Noakhali.
Our Rangpur correspondent adds, Mominul Islam, 30, and Abdul Khalek, 33, both of Kaunia upazila, died when a bus of Saddam Enterprise hit their motorbike on Rangpur-Kurigram highway at Bijaler Ghanti in Kaunia upazila yesterday.
Agitating locals freed Rangpur-Kurigram highway, after blocking it for an hour, when police assured them of arresting the bus driver soon.
Our Pabna Correspondent reports, three people were killed and five others were injured when a microbus hit a human hauler at Hatikumrul Golchattar in Solonga upazila yesterday.
The dead were China, 27, and Rajab Ali, 45, of Solonga upazila, and Rehana, 24, of Kamarkhand upazila.
Our staff correspondent reports, Abdul Latif Mridha, 55, an officer of UCBL bank's Rajshahi branch, died when a pick-up van carrying him hit a roadside tree at Sayed Mor at Natore Sadar upazila.
Meanwhile, Asraful Islam, 23, a truck helper, died while three labourers were injured while the mango-laden vehicle fell into a roadside ditch at Khejur Tala in Natore's Boraigram.
In Munshiganj, Farhad Hossain, 26, died when he lost control of his bike and it fell into a roadside ditch in Bokultala of Sadar upazila. Meanwhile Abdul Hai Sheikh, 65, died while a bus hit him on Dhaka-Mawa highway at Shreeghor upazila on Thursday.
