17 Barisal BNP men sent to jail on surrender

Seventeen leaders and activists of Barisal city BNP, including its Acting Secretary Ziauddin Sikdar and Joint Secretary Mir Zahidul Kabir, yesterday were sent to jail on surrender in three cases filed over arson attack in January this year.

Sheikh Humayun Kabir Masud, defense lawyer, said 19 leaders and activists of Barisal city BNP were accused in the cases filed over an arson attack on a launch at Barisal River Port and on two trucks in Rupatoli area of the city.

Of them, 17 surrendered before the Barisal metropolitan magistrate court and appealed for bail. The court, rejecting their bail prayers, ordered sending them to jail, court sources said.
