A Dhaka court today issued two separate arrest warrants against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed and its Managing Director Masud Parvez in connection with two fraud cases.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Habibur Rahman Chowdhury passed the order after two businessmen filed two separate cases against Shahed and Masud with the court yesterday.

The magistrate also directed the officer-in-charge of the police station to submit a report on execution of the arrest warrants by September 1, the court sources said.

The first case was filed by Md Shipon Ali, a resident of Uttara, for misappropriating Tk 12 lakh and the other was filed by Md Joynul Abedin, a resident of the same area, on charge of misappropriating Tk 29 lakh. On July 13, another Dhaka court issued two arrest warrants against Shahed in two fraud cases filed for misappropriating Tk 3.67 crore from a businessman.

Masud was arrested from Gazipur while Shahed was arrested from Satkhira on July 15 when he was trying to leave the country.

On July 16, Shahed and Masud were placed on a 10-day remand in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging patients for tests and treatment, violating an agreement with the government.

On completion of the remand, Shahed was yesterday placed on a 38-day remand again in five cases including an arms case while Masud was placed on a 21-day remand in three fraud cases.
