2-yr-old girl fatally run over by truck while playing in brick kiln

A two-year-old girl was crushed under the wheels of an earth-laden truck yesterday while playing at a brick kiln in Ghatail upazila of Tangail.

Deceased Sadia Akter was daughter of the kiln's worker Bokul Miah, of Fingri Joradia village in Satkhira, who has been living at the kiln with his family for years. Police said the truck abruptly crushed Sadia under its wheels when she was playing with other kids and her father working at Comprehensive Brick Kiln at Haripur village around 9:00am, leaving her dead on the spot. 

The deceased's family was given some cash as reparations, said Didarul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ghatail police. An unnatural death case was filed in this regard.

In another incident in the same district, a truck helper was killed and four others were injured in a collision among three trucks in Kurni area on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur upazila early yesterday.

Deceased Mohammad Jewel Miah, 25, was from Maichtara village in Noakhali.

The injured persons were admitted to the Kumudini Hospital, said Mirzapur police.

The incident wrought a huge tailback on the highway.
