4 bodies of drowing victims recovered from river Padma

Four bodies have been recovered after two separate incidents of drowning in Munshiganj district's Lohajang upazila.

The bodies of Mahim Bepari (18) and Shimanto (17) were recovered on Wednesday afternoon from Dakkhin Moshdogau area adjacent to the river Padma. Shebun Bepari's son Mahim, and Tipu Khandaker's son Shimanto were both from Moshdogau area.

In another incident on Wednesday evening, Abdul Kader's (25) body was recovered from the Kolma area. Kader -- son of Abdul Goffur -- was a resident of Narayanganj district's Shiddhirganj. The floating body of a missing child, Maryam (7), daughter of Minar Hossain from Louhajang upazila's West Noapara village, was also recovered yesterday morning.

Sreenagar Fire Service station officer Abul Kalam Azad confirmed these incidents and said three friends -- Ekanto, Mahim, and Shimanto -- from Dakkhin Moshdagau were bathing in Padma River when strong waves swept them away. Local fishermen were only able to rescue Ekanto.

Later, locals conducted a search and recovered bodies of Mahim and Shimanto from Mridha Bari area of ​​Bejgaon in the upazila around 1pm, he added.

Many tourists were seen bathing in Kolma area where Maryam drowned. Abdul Kader stepped forward to save her, but he also drowned in the current, he said.
