4 held over rape in Khulna
Police in Khulna yesterday arrested four persons in connection with a gang-rape incident, while another person was arrested by police in Gazipur, after he allegedly attempted to rape a child.
Meanwhile, a 14-year-old boy yesterday confessed to raping and strangling a second-grader to death before a Manikganj court, police said.
In Khulna, a housewife (25) was allegedly raped by four persons around 10pm on Tuesday at an abandoned house near Khalishpur New Market area, reports our correspondent.
The woman filed a complaint with Khalishpur Police Station. Police in a drive arrested the four -- Sayeed (35), Nuruzzaman (35), Sumon (18), and Nazmul (20) -- from different parts of Khalishpur.
Nimai Chandra Kundu, OC of Khalishpur Police Station, said the suspects are notorious thieves and muggers and accused in multiple cases.
A rape case was filed against them, said Nimai, adding that the woman was sent to a victim support centre.
OC Alam Chand of Kapasia Police Station said police arrested one Kafil Uddin (60) from Gazipur Sadar's Bagherbazar area around 11am yesterday, after he tried to rape a seven-year-old girl at her house Tuesday morning, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
The girl received treatment at Kapasia Upazila Health Complex and was later admitted at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital, he added. The arrestee was sent to jail through a court.
Manikganj's Additional Superintendent of Police Hafizur Rahman yesterday said a 14-year-old boy gave confessional statement of raping and murdering a child. He was sent to Gazipur juvenile development centre, said the police official, adding that the boy and the girl were neighbours, adding the incident took place on May 21 in the woods.
The body was recovered a day later, and autopsy report confirmed murder after rape, he said.
