AL gets more time to submit audit report to EC

The Election Commission yesterday extended the deadline for one month for ruling Awami League to submit its annual financial transaction report to EC.

The decision on eight other political parties including BNP that sought additional time for this purpose will be taken Sunday, said officials.

Out of 40 registered political parties, 22 have submitted such reports and nine have sought more time till yesterday with the parties having one day.

BNP sought maximum one and a half months while Oikyabaddha Nagorik Andolon minimum 20 days, the officials said.

As per the Political Parties Registration Rule, 2008, all the registered parties have to submit their annual financial transactions reports audited by a registered chartered accountant firm within July 31 every year.

Relaxing the provision, the EC like most of the previous years, extended the deadline this time as major political parties, including AL and BNP, failed to meet the deadline.
