Arrest warrants against 34 BNP-Jamaat leaders
A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrants against 34 leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party-alliance, including Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia in a case filed for torching a vehicle in the city's Jatrabari area on January 23 last year.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after accepting the charges against 58, including the 34 accused.
The accused include, Barkatullah Bulu, Habibunnabi Khan Sohel, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Azizul Bari Helal, former BNP lawmaker from Dhaka Salauddin Ahmed, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shimul Biswas and press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan, and BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman.
Khaleda's advisors Khandker Mahbub Hossain, MK Anwar, journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, Amanullah Aman, and 19 others are now on bail.
The court directed officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station to submit by July 17 the reports on execution of the arrest warrants.
