BCL council July 25-26
The 28th council of pro-Awami League (AL) student body Bangladesh Chhatra League will be held on July 25-26.
The council of its Dhaka city north unit will be on May 28, Dhaka south May 30 and Dhaka University (DU) June 11.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. That of district and city units will be held from May 25 to July 4. There are 101 district, around 1,000 upazila and numerous union and ward units.
President HM Badiuzzaman Sohag announced the dates at a press briefing at Madhu's Canteen in DU yesterday.
The present central executive committee was announced on July 11, 2011 for a tenure of two years.
On it existing for four years, General Secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam reasoned "for various political phenomena".
The previous committee had also continued for around five years till July 2011 after being formed in April 4, 2006.
Nazmul said the date was fixed after discussions with AL President Sheikh Hasina before the April 28 city corporation elections.
A section of leaders and activists have expressed resentment over the delay in announcing the election as they fear missing out from contesting for crossing the 29 years age limit.
