BIWTA eviction drive faces obstruction

A group of miscreants yesterday attacked a team of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) during an eviction drive at Postogola along the Buriganga riverbank, leaving an executive magistrate and four members of the team injured.

When the team tried to evict a sand quarry, some people wielding bamboo sticks swooped on them, leaving executive magistrate Mostafizur Rahman and four others injured, said BIWTA Dhaka River Port Joint Director AKM Arif Uddin.

Later, a police team went to the spot and arrested one of them while others managed to flee, he said.
