BNP dependent on Jamaat: B Chy
Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury yesterday criticised BNP as a party politically dependent on Jamaat-e-Islami and suggested that it should sever ties with Jamaat and follow the ideals of its founder Ziaur Rahman.
"BNP is now going through the third phase of its politics. In the first phase, it was Ziaur Rahman's BNP.... Then it turned into Khaleda Zia's. Now it is following Khaleda with dependence on Jamaat," said the former BNP leader.
B Chowdhury, also a former president, made the remarks at the publication ceremony of a book titled "Attasattar Rajniti Ebang Amar Bhabna" at a hotel in the capital. The book was
written by former minister AKM Maidul Islam Chowdhury.
"BNP is no longer in the spirit that party founder Ziaur Rahman had. It sank into the policies of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Ties with Jamaat must be cut to revive its politics," he added.
The BNP-Jamaat relationship would not sustain in the future due to pressure from home and abroad, he said, adding that BNP's fourth phase would be bouncing back in Zia's spirit.
Referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, the veteran politician said the people still did not know the terms and conditions of the agreements signed. It will take nearly a year to know whether the country will be benefited from the deals or not, he added.
"The agreements mean ensuring a win-win situation where no one will be the loser. We' don't know whether the 22 deals were signed following it."
He also regretted that the proposed Teesta water sharing deal was not signed.
