Khaleda's motorcade; AL-backed South
Dhaka mayor aspirant Khokon echoes them
Ministers and Awami League leaders yesterday made similar statements on Monday's attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's motorcade during her campaign at Karwanbazar, and accused BNP of hatching a conspiracy to thwart the upcoming city corporation elections.
Khaleda Zia is creating an anarchic situation and trying to spoil the festive mood of the April 28 election, sensing the party-backed candidates' unavoidable defeat, AL publicity affair secretary Hasan Mahmud told a programme in front of Jatiya Press Club.
He added that the aggrieved people might have attacked the motorcade or it might have been a result of BNP's intra-party feud.
At another programme there, Food Minister Quamrul Islam said, "BNP is against the holding of a smooth and peaceful election... BNP also wants to create a state of conflict in the country."
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said Khaleda Zia had no popular support. What she has are terrorists, killers and petrol bomb throwers, he added.
Addressing a function at Sadarghat launch terminal, he called upon all to resist Khaleda.
Echoing the AL leaders, party-backed mayoral hopeful in Dhaka south Sayeed Khokon yesterday said aggrieved family members of the victims of petrol bomb attacks might have thrown one or two stones at her motorcade.
"But I think the aggrieved persons should opt for legal battle instead of attacks," he added.
