Bus chased by police kills motorcyclist
After being chased by a highway police van, a bus hit a motorbike on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla yesterday afternoon, leaving the motorcyclist dead and 10 bus passengers injured.
The deceased -- identified as Kamal Uddin (40) -- used to work for Bank Asia agent banking, said police.
The incident occurred at Katherpol in Chandina area around 2pm while the bus of Satata Paribahan was heading towards Dhaka, said the law enforcers.
On information that the bus was carrying narcotics, they started chasing it, said Safayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mainamati Highway Police.
Instead of stopping the bus, its driver tried to speed away and ran over the motorcycle, said the OC, adding that the bus fell into a roadside canal as the driver lost control over it.
Police seized the bus and found 11 bottles of Phensedyl inside it, said OC Safayet.
No arrest was made as the bus driver and helper managed to flee the scene, he said.
The injured passengers were taken to Chandina Upazila Health Complex, said the police officer.
