Charges to be framed against Moudud if no SC order by Aug 13
A Dhaka court yesterday told lawyers of BNP leader Moudud Ahmed that charges against him in a land-related graft case will be framed if no order from the Supreme Court is received in this regard by August 13.
The Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka gave the order while advocate Taherul Islam Tauhid was moving a petition seeking an adjournment of the hearing on charge framing against the BNP leader in the case.
In the petition, Tauhid said they had earlier filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of a lower court order that accepted charges against Moudud in the graft case on September 14 last year.
But the HC on June 23 rejected the writ petition and cleared the way for the lower court to run the graft case against Moudud.
Later, they filed an appeal with the SC which is now pending, said Tauhid.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on December 17, 2013 against Moudud and his brother Monjur Ahmed accusing them of grabbing government land worth over Tk 300 crore in Gulshan.
CASE AGAINST ANNEE
The ACC yesterday pressed charges against BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annee in a case filed against him for amassing wealth without known sources of income and concealing wealth information.
ACC Deputy Director Alam, who is also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Annee to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
The IO appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant for Annee as he did not get bail in the case.
On October 10 last year, ACC Deputy Director Manzur Morshed filed the case stating that Annee amassed more than Tk 1.4 crore illegally as he failed to show the sources of income. The case statement also said the former lawmaker concealed information of more than Tk 13.13 lakh in the wealth statement he submitted to the commission.
