Chhatra Union leader beaten up by 'BCL men'
A Bangladesh Chhatra Union leader was beaten up allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists while he was campaigning for todays' hartal at Dhamrai Government College in Dhaka yesterday.
In a statement, Chattra Union protested the incident and demanded punishment for the attackers.
Shuvo Chowdhury, office secretary of BCU Dhaka district unit, said a group of BCL activists led by its college unit's dissolved committee president Habibur Rahman assaulted Parvej Ahmed, organising secretary of Chhatra Union Dhamrai unit, while distributing leaflets among the college studentso stop the campaign.
Habibur told The Daily Star that they took him into a bus from the campus by force to have him join an Awami League rally in the capital, but later released him at Jahangirnagar after hearing that he was a Chhatra Union leader. He, however, denied beating him.
