Convention against political violence today
Sammilito Nagorik Samaj, a citizens' platform, will hold a national convention in the capital's Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh today to protest the ongoing acts of terror against general people in the name of political movement.
It will start at 9:30am with the slogan "Get united to resist violence, terror and militancy and to build a secular, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh".
Mentioning that many innocent people have been killed and many others injured in arson attacks on vehicles, the platform said the country was now facing a grave crisis and the core principles of independence enshrined in the constitution were under threat.
Alluding to BNP, it alleged that acts of terror were going on, as the political party, which has called hartals and blockade, did not seek a political solution to the existing crisis.
These harmful programmes are taking a huge toll on the economy, trade and education system, while progressive people and free thinkers are coming under attack, the forum said, observing that the government's containing measures are almost failing.
Sammilito Nagorik Samaj asserted that terror could never be a way of politics, and a political crisis should not be treated as a problem of law and order.
The platform urged people from all walks of life including freedom fighters, development activists, professionals, farmers, day labourers, women, youths and students to play a unanimous role to overcome the ongoing crisis.
