Country to observe World Hemophilia Day today
Bangladesh is set to join the global community in observing the World Hemophilia Day today to drum up the awareness campaign to support the patients with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.
Though the disease is incurable, but with proper knowledge and treatment it can be handled.
According to World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), globally 1 in 1,000 people have a bleeding disorder. Most are not diagnosed and do not receive treatment. This day provides an opportunity to talk to family and friends, colleagues, and caregivers to raise awareness and increase support.
Supported by the WFH, hemophilia awareness day was first established in 1989. The date of 17th April was chosen to honor Frank Schnabel the founder of WFH, whose birthday falls on the same date.
To mark the day Hemophilia and Health Care Trust yesterday organised a human chain in front of the capital's Jatiya Press Club, followed by a discussion where they placed their 10-point demand, said a press release.
The demands included providing blood, fresh plazma and essential injections to the patients free of costs, setting up 10-bed hemophilia ward and establish physiotherapy centre at Dhaka medical college hospital.
Engineer Abdul Majid Fakir presided over the discussion.
