Court orders judicial probe against 2 cops for abuse
A Dhaka court yesterday ordered a judicial inquiry into the allegations against two police officials of Rampura Police Station of detaining a court staff and threatening to implicate him in a criminal case.
Md Parvez, the staff of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court, filed a case against sub-inspector Moniruzzaman Monir and inspector (operation) Mustafizur Rahman, stating that they tortured him for a whole night and threatened to implicate him in a case of stealing motorcycles.
The court passed the order after the case was filed, said a court source.
In his case, Md Parvez mentioned that he was walking in front of Rampura Police Station to deliver a summon when he was caught by the accused police officials on Tuesday afternoon, the source added.
The accused police officials then started beating him and threatened to file a case against him for stealing motorcycles, the source said.
Parvez was released around 10:30am yesterday.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the police officials detained Parvez suspecting that he was a motorcycle thief.
"But when we realised that the suspicion was wrong, we let him go," he said.
