Create posts for physiotherapists at upazila level
Marking the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day, which was on Sunday, National Assembly speaker, lawmakers and national medical leaders on Wednesday called for the introduction of first-class physiotherapist posts at upazila level.
They made the call at a discussion titled "Physiotherapy Medical Profession and Bangabandhu's Bangladesh", organised by Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) at the capital's Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
Netrakona District Mahila Awami League President Kamrunnesa Ashraf called on the Ministry of Social Welfare to appoint graduate physiotherapists at all schools for people with disabilities.
Magura-1 lawmaker Md Saifuzzaman sought the prime minister's intervention in appointing physiotherapists at the upazila level.
Speaking at the programme, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman said if Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Act is implemented, "pseudo-physiotherapy" will be stopped at the country's marginal level.
Fazle Rabbi Miah, deputy speaker of parliament, also sought the PM's direct intervention in filling vacancies, and creating specific councils and physiotherapist posts.
BPA President Dr Sanjit Kumar Chakraborty and BPA General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain expressed their firm commitment to continue the organisation's activities for the country's development and people's welfare.
