Demand for VC's removal continues at Sust
A section of teachers of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust), who are demanding the vice chancellor's resignation since mid-April, locked the administrative building and the VC's office yesterday as part of their indefinite protest programme.
They put the locks around 8:00am, but some students allegedly led by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists broke the one at the administrative building around 1:30pm, acting proctor Emdadul Hoque told The Daily Star.
Wishing anonymity, a BCL leader of Sust admitted that they broke the lock but said it was because students came to receive certificates.
VC Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan spent the day at his official residence, and nobody was inside the administrative building when it was locked.
However, around 27 teachers who are protesting under the banner "Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhak Brindo" staged a sit-in in front of the VC's office till 4:00pm.
The sit-in will continue today, said the platform's convener, Prof Sayed Shamsul Alam.
