DoE knocks down three illegal kilns

The Department of Environment in Chattogram has knocked down three brick kilns in Lohagara upazila, in line with a High Court directive declaring them illegal.

The HC on December 14 directed the DoE to take necessary steps to demolish all illegal brick kilns operating within their territory.

The demolished kilns are Petanshah Brick, Khawaza Brick, and Baro Awlia Brick, said Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of DoE Chattogram region. The demolition campaign was launched last week as per HC directives, he said.

"We have demolished three kilns as of today (yesterday). We have plans to take down another one named CBM. The demolished kilns did not obtain any clearance certificate from DoE, nor do they have approval from district administration", the official added.
