DUFA gets new committee

Barrister M Shafiqul Islam and GM Akhtar Hossain have been elected president and general secretary of Dhaka University Friends Alliance (DUFA), a registered friend organisation of the 1995-96 batch under the institution.

The election results were announced by Chief Election Commissioner Ahmed Bashir on Saturday night.

Tariqul Alam Sumon, Shujan Mahmud, Nasirul Haque Rimu, Kaniz Fatema Luna, Nahid Hossain and Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan have been elected vice presidents.

Abu Saleh, Kamrul Hasan, Mohammad Aslam Hossain, Mohammad Zafrul Hasan and Rumana Amin were elected joint secretaries while Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Mohammad Aminul Islam, Shawkat Ahmed, Urmi Farooqi and Sheikh Raju Ahmed organising secretaries.

Earlier, Ziaul Kabir Sumon, publication, media and communication secretary; Mohammad Touhidur Rahman, finance secretary; Mohammad Hamidul Islam, office secretary; Saiful Islam Shanto, legal affairs secretary; Prof Mohammad Reazul Islam, international relations secretary; Jasmine Ara Juthi, gender and family affairs secretary; Mohammad Hasanuzzaman Patwari, event secretary; Md Golam Sarwar Himon, information technology secretary; Zaheer Raihan Alam, sports secretary; and Shyamoli Begum, cultural secretary; and 29 departmental representatives were elected unopposed.

Professors Ahmed Bashir, Rashedul Islam and Rafiqul Islam Noman acted as election commissioners.

DUFA's new committee will be sworn in on December 25.

In an instant response, the newly elected president said DUFA wants to play a positive role in the welfare of the country and increase communication among themselves through this platform of friendship.
