Environ, economy, society harmony must for SDGs
Sustainable development goals (SDGs) can be achieved by striking a balance among the environment, economy and social communities, said speakers in Chittagong city yesterday.
Southern University Bangladesh organised the "International Conference on Sustainable Development 2015" at a hotel.
Addressing as chief guest, University Grant Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan said 65 percent of the total population age below 35 years and this young generation can achieve SDGs while universities will have to play a vital role in enriching and preparing them with knowledge for this challenge.
Dr Amiya Bhaumik, vice chancellor of Lincoln University College, Malaysia, said universities should produce such graduates who will create jobs rather than seeking jobs.
Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan of Dhaka University's development studies department mentioned that besides developing in many aspects like poverty alleviation, and maternal and child mortality rate reduction, Bangladesh still lags behind in fulfilling many targets including achieving full employment and tackling unplanned urbanisation.
Prof Mohammad Ali, vice chancellor of Southern University Bangladesh, also spoke.
