Ershad postpones formation of new Barisal city committee of JP

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday returned to the capital from Barisal without announcing the new committee of the party's city unit, as tension flared up between two intra-party factions.

There were tight security arrangements at the venue, Ashwini Kumar Hall, in the city, but fearing violence, Ershad said he would announce the committee from Dhaka later.

One faction was led by Murtaza Abedin, convener of the incumbent convening committee of JP's Barisal city unit, and the other by Prof Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, former president of that unit.
