Girl hurt by stray bullet

A schoolgirl was injured by a stray bullet in Mistripara area of Khulna yesterday.

Lamia (15), a student of Iqbalnagar Government Girls School, was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Doctors said she is out of danger.

Police said Yusuf Ali Sardar, a contractor and resident of Mistripara, got the contract to renovate works on Babukhan Road. He was being pressurised by some youths to forfeit the work. When they went in front of his house around 11am, he fired two shots with a licensed weapon. One of the bullets hit Lamia, who lives nearby, in her right leg.

Contacted, Yusuf did not want to talk about it.

Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar police station, said they are looking into the matter.
