Girl 'raped by ex-UP member' in Kushtia

A teenage girl was allegedly raped by a former Union Parishad member in Bheramara upazila in Kushtia on Thursday night.

Bazlur Rahman alias Bazlu member, 37, entered the house of the girl at midnight and raped her pressing a clothe on her mouth, Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bheramara Police Station, quoted the girl as saying.

Grandfather of the girl, aged around 14, whose parents work in a Dhaka garment factory, found her unconscious in the morning.

The girl was taken to a hospital, said the OC.

Atiqur Rahman told The Daily Star that Bazlu, 37, a former member of Dharampur UP, had often teased the girl.

A case was filed accusing Bazlu, who is on the run, the OC added.
