A restaurant worker, hacked by a youth in capital's Pallabi on Friday night, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday noon.

The youth also stabbed Lucky Akter, 20, wife of the victim Nizamuddin, 27. The couple lived in Mirpur sector-7.

Pallabi police arrested the attacker Touhidul Islam, 23, and recovered a blood-stained knife from him on Friday.

Dadan Fakir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pallabi police, told The Daily Star that the couple went to Mirpur-11 for shopping and while returning on foot, Touhid attacked them.

Touhid claimed that he and Nizam had a quarrel while working at a garments factory one year back and he killed him out of enmity, said the OC. "It's a lie. Nizam had been working in a restaurant for more than a year," claimed Fakir.

The OC said Touhid will be placed on remand for further interrogation.
