HC questions legality of interest waiver

The High Court yesterday called for documents from Bangladesh Krishi Bank about its decision of waiving interest of Tk 48 crore for Chattogram's BNP leader and businessperson Abbas Ali. 

In response to a writ petition, the court ordered the chairperson and managing director of Krishi Bank to produce the documents before it in four weeks for examination.

The HC also questioned the legality of the decision taken by the board of directors of Krishi Bank for waiving the interest for Abbas, as finance loan and money laundering cases against him are pending.

It issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in four weeks why the decision should not be declared illegal.
