Eskaton Double Murder

Hearing adjourned till May 8

A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned till May 8 the hearing of the Eskaton double murder case filed against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of ruling Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, as the complainant remained absent due to illness, according to a petition submitted by the prosecution.

Additional Public Prosecutor SM Jahid Hossain told the court that Monwara Begum, mother of one of the victim, would appear at the next scheduled date.

The court also rejected a bail petition of Rony.

Earlier, on March 6, the same court framed charges against the accused and fixed yesterday for starting trial.

On July 21 last year, detectives pressed murder charges against him.

According to the charge sheet, Rony fired random shots in the air from his sport utility vehicle (SUV) for "being frustrated over post-midnight traffic" on April 15 last year, leaving a rickshaw-puller and an auto-rickshaw driver dead on New Eskaton Road.Rony later admitted to opening fire on people, claimed police.
