A Sylhet court yesterday placed Dibakor Deb Kollol, his father Subhash Chandra Deb and mother Ratna Rani Deb, on a three-day remand each, in connection with a case filed over the death of Dr Priyanka Talukder Shanta.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jiadur Rahman passed the order after police produced the trio before the court with a seven day remand prayer.

Dr Priyanka Talukder Shanta was found hanging at her in-law’s house in Sylhet city on Sunday morning.

She was a lecturer of Physiology department at Park View Medical College Hospital in Sylhet city and was mother of a three-year old.

Police recovered her body from Pallabi Residential Area in the city and detained her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law.

In the evening, Priyanka’s father Hrishikesh Talukder filed a case with Jalalabad Police Station, accusing the trio of killing his daughter, said Harun-ur-Rashid, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Priyanka and Kollol married six years ago. She wanted to appear for the BCS examination but her in-laws did not want her to proceed with her career, claimed Polash Talukder, brother of the deceased.

“She told us over phone that they tortured her regularly,” Polash also claimed.
