Unidentified miscreants assaulted an assistant organising secretary of BNP in the party's Naya Paltan office in the capital yesterday, according to a party source.

A gang of 10-12 stormed Taiful Islam Tipu's office on the second floor around 11:00am, and kicked and punched him indiscriminately for a few minutes before leaving the scene, said a BNP office staff.

Tipu was admitted a local hospital with injury marks on Taiful's back and ear.

Tipu said he was made an assistant organising secretary in June.

In June, another assistant organising secretary of BNP, Abdus Salam Azad, came under attack almost in a similar manner at the same office.

In a statement, BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon expressed concern over such attacks and demanded arrest of the culprits.

He said BNP itself would investigate whether any of its men was involved in it.
