JU decides to hold honours final exam
Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have decided to hold the honours final year examinations that were previously postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The exam will be a mixture of online viva-voce and averaging previous three years' CGPA.
In addition, the university will not charge any exam fees and will refund students who have already registered.
The decision was made at a virtual meeting of the university's emergency academic council on Saturday evening following ultimatums issued by students. The session was chaired by VC Prof Farzana Islam.
"A proposal with the expected examination process was placed by the university's technical committee, which was approved by the academics council, with room for modifications if necessaries," said Prof Sohel Ahmed of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department, one of the council members of the university.
According to the proposal, the honours final examination will consider a percentage of a student's previous three years' average CGPA, allocating a total of 50 marks here. The rest of it will come up from class attendance, tutorial marks, and online viva-voce.
JU Pro-VC Prof Amir Hussain said no exam fee will be charged from students, and those who have completed their registration will be refunded.
Meanwhile, students who have been demonstrating on campus demanding completion of exams since early November expressed their satisfaction over the decision.
