Juta demands 2-day weekend for teachers
for students begin today
Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (Juta) on Saturday demanded a two-day weekend for the teachers to enhance their efforts on academic activities, at a general meeting in Zahir Raihan Auditorium of the campus.
They also made other demands including, creating accountability regarding the allocation of money from the evening programmes, announcing date of outdated Academic Council, Syndicate Election, and that temporary teachers be made permanent according to the university act.
Meanwhile, the university authorities yesterday announced a bus service from campus to Mirpur route, commencing from today, said Prof Emdadul Haque, acting in-charge of transport.
Students under the banner of Bangladeesh Chhatra Union, who had been staging demonstrations, sieged the transport yard for two hours yesterday, demanding a bus service for the route, as there had been none for more than five years, said students.
Students withdrew their programme following the announcement, they added.
