Khaleda files appeal at SC challenging trial at lower court

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday filed an appeal with the Supreme Court challenging a High Court verdict that cleared the way for a lower court to run trial proceedings of Niko corruption case filed against her in 2007.

Khaleda prayed to the Appellate Division to scrap the HC judgment and trial proceedings in the case.

The apex court is yet to fix any date for hearing the appeal, Khaleda's lawyer AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon told reporters.

The High Court on June 18 rejected a petition filed by Khaleda challenging the legality of the opening and proceedings of the case.
