Kulsum country's 'oldest' female to undergo primary angioplasty

Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Khulna performed primary angioplasty on a 100-year-old woman on Monday to reestablish blood circulation and supply to her heart muscle.

The patient is in good condition and is recovering fast, says a press release.

Citing available records, the hospital claims that Kulsum Begum is the oldest woman in Bangladesh to successfully undergo such kind of manipulation. 

Earlier in the day, she suffered a heart attack and was brought to the hospital by her 76-year-old daughter. The doctors immediately took her to the cathlab.

Primary angioplasty is a life-saving procedure to open a fully blocked coronary artery with the help of balloon and placing a stent (ring) into it.

Dr Husnayen Nanna, a senior cardiologist of Bangladesh, along with Dr Abdullah Manjur, Dr Mahbubul Haque carried out the extraordinary procedure.
