Libya killings: 3 accused denied bail

Star Online Report

A virtual court in Dhaka today rejected bail petitions of three accused in a case filed over trafficking of 26 Bangladeshis who were killed in Libya on May 28.

The accused are: Md Sohag Hossain, Khalid Chowdhury and Mosammat Sanzida.

On June 5, Sub-inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Md Rafiqul Islam filed the case with Paltan Police Station against 36 traffickers -- including the three -- and 50 unnamed people.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atiqul Islam passed the order after their lawyers submitted petitions seeking their bails in the case through emails.

The magistrate, in his order, said it is a sensational case and the investigation officer found their involvement with trafficking of Bangladeshis to Libya. So, their bails were rejected, the magistrate added.

Criminal Investigation Department on June 8 arrested Sohag, Khalid and Sanzida from different parts of Dhaka. Later, they were produced before a Dhaka court, which sent them to jail.

CID Inspector AHM Rashed Fazal is the investigation officer of the case.

The 26 Bangladeshis were killed and 11 others were injured when human traffickers opened fire on a group of migrants they were taking from Benghazi to Tripoli.
