Lighter vessel sinks in Ctg

A lighter vessel with around 1,200 tonnes of limestone sank in the outer anchorage of the Chittagong Port near Patenga beach early yesterday.

Cracks developed in the hull of MV Hazi Abul Kashem due to strong waves, said Ataul Kabir, deputy secretary of Water Transport Cell, a private organisation that coordinates lighter vessels. All the 13 crews managed to board another lighter vessel.

A letter was sent to the owner to recover the vessel.
